Waterloo voters have elected a new mayor for the first time in ten years. City councilman Tim Hurley won the first runoff election in Waterloo history yesterday with 55-percent of the votes. Hurley got seven-thousand of the more than 12-thousand-700 votes cast. He beat Black Hawk County Republican chairman Doug Miller, the top vote-getter in the November 4th municipal election. Hurley and Miller were forced into a runoff because neither got the 51-percent of the votes required to win last month. Hurley will replace John Rooff, who has been Waterloo’s mayor since 1994. The incumbent failed last month in his attempt to win a record sixth term, finishing third among six candidates. Hurley will be sworn in next month.
