Democratic presidential candidate Dick Gephardt’s wrapping up a four-day campaign swing through Iowa, and with just 27 days remaining ’til Iowa’s Caucuses, Gephardt’s urging voters to consider a candidate’s “electability” when judging which candidate to support. Gephardt says there’s a “continuing interest” among Iowa voters to figure out who has the best chance to defeat George Bush. Gephardt says to beat Bush, democrats must nominate a candidate who can win in the Industrial Heartland of the country, winning states like Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Gephardt says he’s the only candidate in the race from the Midwest, and he contends he is the only candidate who can beat Bush in those battleground states.Gephardt says the trade issue is a huge issue in those states, and he says of all the candidates, he is the only one who voted against the North American Free Trade Agreement — NAFTA. Gephardt started today in Onawa, then made stops in Woodbine, and Harlan. He’s meeting with Pottawattamie County supporters at four o’clock in Council Bluffs.
