One person died in a car/train crash in Boone. Boone County Sheriff Ron Fehr has identified the man who died in the accident east of Boone as 26-year-old James Sutton of Des Moines, and formerly of Ogden. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says Sutton’s 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo hit the train. He says the train was stopped while the crews were changing at Boone. The car came through the intersection at Highway 17 and hit the train. State police say Sutton’s vehicle not only went through the stop sign, but also the crossing gate, which was down during the accident. The vehicle caught fire and lifted the rail car off its center pins. Davis says neither Union Pacific nor the State Patrol know why Sutton was unable to stop in time.He says they’re not sure why Sutton didn’t stop. Sutton was pronounced dead at the scene.
