William Penn baseball coach Mike Laird will take the success of this past season with him on the recruiting trail. The Statesmen finished the season with a record of 48-15 after a seventh place finish at the N-A-I-A World Series this week. Laird says after taking part in the series — the Statesmen know they can compete with the top teams. He says he’s no sure they could’ve won the tournament, but says they know they can compete. He says it showed him what he has to do to recruit and fill some holes. Most of the players return for next season though Laird will be trying to shore up a couple of areas. He says they had two or three pitchers who carried them, and they’re a little weak in the bullpen. He says they also need a few more sluggers in the lineup to get some more power.
