The Madrid softball team is proof that the post-season is a new season. After compiling an eight-and-24 regular season mark the Tigers are a victory away from the state tournament. They play Cal-Dows tonight in a class 1A regional final. Madrid coach Jason Carter says they knew they had a chance and their four players back off injuries made their season appear deceiving. One of the players back from the injury list is sophomore pitcher Nicole Forristall who has allowed just two runs during tournament play. She is a key part of a young lineup that features four sophomores, a freshman and three eighth graders. Carter says the injuries and a tough Heart of Iowa Conference schedule led to their struggles during the regular season but it prepared them for the tournament.
