The Crawford County courthouse is 100 years old today (Friday). Since January a committee of local citizens and former county workers worked to put together today’s special program, and committee member Chuck Ettleman says the main events begin at five this afternoon on the courthouse lawn. The program will include the early history of the courthouse and a judge will tell the courthouse story. Ettleman says the committee’s also come up with a “time capsule” that will be buried under the front steps of the courthouse, to preserve the history of Denison, Crawford County, and the courthouse into the future. A family can buy an envelope for ten dollars and it will be placed in a time-capsule that will be opened in one-hundred years. Committee member Cindy Goslar says the time capsule and a new display case for the courthouse lobby will be paid for with profits from an assortment of mementoes created just for the anniversary. Items include a coffee mug, bell, a coin, and a glass stein commemorating the occasion.
