Drake gets an early start in the Missouri Valley Conference race tonight as the Bulldogs host Wichita State in the league opener for both teams. The Bulldogs are 1-3 after a loss at Colorado State and coach Tom Davis says the unbeaten Shockers will provide another difficult test. Davis says there are any number of conference teams that’ve gotten off to a good start, and Wichita State is one of them.Last year Drake’s full court press hurt the Shockers but Davis says they will going up against a more experienced team this time. He says you’re able to adjust more quickly during a game when you have a veteran core of players. Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon says Drake’s record is a product of a tough early schedule. He says he sees the same Drake team as last year, but better with more inside strength. These teams played three times last season and Turgeon hopes the added experience of playing against the full court press will be a bonus. He says they have a game plan, but he says you never know if that plan is going to work until the game gets underway.
