The Buena Vista men visit South Dakota State Friday night in their first-ever matchup with a division one foe. BV is 9-0 and fifth ranked in the latest division three poll. After a longtime run in the North Central Conference at the division two level South Dakota State is in its first season in division-one. Not surprisingly, the Jackrabbits have struggled to a 2-11 record.Buena Vista coach Brian Van Haaften says he’s know their coaches for quite awhile and he says they were both looking for a game. The Beavers will need to battle a size disadvantage, as he says they go 6-11 and 6-7 and that will be tough for them to handle. He says his team will have to rebound the ball extremely well and limit the points they score in the lane.Defense has been spark in the Beavers unbeaten start. Opponents are shooting just 36 percent from the field. Van Haaften says he’s been a little surprised by the defense, as they’ve made every team shoot tough shot. Buena Vista returns to Iowa Conference play next week.
