The F-B-I’s been called to investigate a prank phone call Tuesday afternoon that appeared to come from inside a business near Cedar Rapids. Angela Melton is spokeswoman for the Hiawatha police department, which got the call about an alleged workplace shooting. Melton says “Somehow entry was gained into the computer system at Crystal Group and these folks were able to place a 911 call. Officers were informed that there was a shooting with possible fatality. Officers responded to the scene. The building was secured and there was found to be no gunmen inside.” Two more 9-1-1 calls were made, all of which appeared to come from the computer company. Investigators say it appears someone from out-of-state hacked into the phone system to make the prank calls appear legitimate. Melton says the F-B-I is being called in because of the nature of the calls and to determine their point of origin. One of the callers reportedly said the three masked gunmen with A-K 47 assault rifles were in the building. Crystal Group reportedly makes computer servers for the telecommunications and defense industries.
