The southeast Iowa man accused of molesting his teenage daughter now claims he was physically incapable of the molestation. The Fairfield insurance agent facing more than two-dozen counts of incest and sexual abuse involving his daughter took the stand in his own defense yesterday. 42-year-old Larry Smith testified the abuse his daughter described was nearly impossible due to his erectile dysfunction. Smith also said the search of his property by deputies was unlawful. He added, upon hearing the charges against him, he was so angry, he tried to commit suicide with a cocktail of whisky and sleeping pills. Deliberations may begin today in this, Smith’s second trial on the charges. The first case ended in a hung jury last fall.
