Wartburg notches 25th win

The Wartburg baseball team recorded its 25th win of the season yesterday with a 6-to-2 victory over Clarke. Wartburg coach Joel Holst says solid pitching made up for a lack of offense, as the 14th-ranked Knights won for the 16th time in their last 18 games. He says they’ve had great pitching and that’s been the story of the season.Last Saturday, Wartburg won its ninth consecutive Iowa Conference championship with a sweep of Luther. The trophy was presented to the Knights before yesterday’s game. Holst says the unprecedented run of dominance in the 58-year-old league is the reward of hard work and dedication by several talented student-athletes. He says the players have worked hard and had some luck, but he says if you work hard, good things will happen. The Knights face Minnesota Conference member Carleton on the road tonight before heading into their final weekend of regular-season play. Carleton has struggled to a 9-and-24 record this year, but Holst says the team is one Wartburg can’t overlook. The Wartburg-Carleton game has been switched from a doubleheader to a single nine-inning game, starting at 6:30 tonight. The site has also been moved from Northfield, Minnesota to Dundas, Minnesota.
