New Hampton woman charged with falsely reporting assualt by boyfriend

The accuser is now the accused in a strange case of he-said-she-said in the northeast Iowa town of New Hampton. A charge of attempted murder has been dropped against Patrick Schumacher and he was released earlier this week from the Chickasaw County Jail. Nineteen-year-old Megan Benson now has been charged with making a false report. Benson claimed Schumacher assaulted her with a belt, knife, and scissors, but police have now determined that injuries sustained by Benson were self-inflicted. Schumahcer had been charged in 2003 with domestic assault against Benson, and both were convicted of violating a no-contact order. The couple has a two-year-old child.
