The Missouri Valley Conference is moving the championship game for its men’s basketball tournament from Monday to Sunday. Since 1997 the tournament has started on Friday and ended with a Monday night championship game in St. Louis. The new format means the tournament will now start on a Thursday.M-V-C commissioner Doug Elgin says there is a downside to moving the tournament up as far as attendance goes, but he says they hope the new format will boost attendance for the final two rounds. Elgin says the Monday night game was not always the best option as people had to take a day off to attend the championship game. He says they saw some attrition in attendance at that game. Next season’s Valley tournament will run March second through the fifth.
