Davenport officials are telling more of the story now that led to last night’s shooting death of an alleged stalking suspect. A woman called 9-1-1 from her cell phone in traffic to say an ex-boyfriend was following her S-U-V and that she feared for her life. Scott County Attorney Bill Davis says Officer Scott Fuller responded and saw the car ramming the S-U-V in a theatre parking lot. Davis says the officer lost his weapon to the suspect, was rendered unconscious and the suspect sped off in the officer’s squad car. Davis says not long after that, other officers caught up with the suspect in the squad car, surrounding him in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. County Attorney Davis relates events, saying “That person realizes that he is hemmed in.” He says the suspect, still in the squad car, took the police gun, put it to his own head, and killed himself. The offer reportedly suffered a concussion and was treated at a local hospital. The suspect’s name has not yet been released. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department and the state Division of Criminal Investigation are handling the case.
