State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says a shift in the jet stream of air that brings storm systems over Iowa could dry things up. Hillaker says for some parts of the state that’s welcome news. He says things are very wet over much of western and northwestern Iowa. But Hillaker says some parts of the state could use some rain. He says the eastern one third of the state has been very dry thus far — as has much of the eastern and central corn belt in the U.S. Hillaker says the shift will take most of the storms away from Iowa. He says it’ll move the storm track north of Iowa into North Dakota and northern Minnesota, and maybe even farther north than that. Hillaker says the weather models that suggest the shift could be in place for at least one week.
