The former secretary of an eastern Iowa fire and rescue unit has been arrested for allegedly stealing from the department. Thirty-year-old Jackie Marie Thomas of North Liberty was arrested and charged today with 2nd degree theft. Thomas is accused of stealing from the Oxford Fire/First Responders. She had served as the department’s secretary for about two years. The theft took place on August 11th of 2003. Thomas is accused of withdrawing $2,500 from a bank account maintained by the first responders, at the Coralville branch of the Oxford First Trust and Savings Bank. She was allowed to turn herself in to Johnson County authorities this morning, and was scheduled to make her initial court appearance today.
