Iowa has just about three million people living within its borders according to a report from the Iowa Department of Public Health. The health department’s data for 2004 pegs Iowa’s population at two-million-nine-hundred-54 thousand. That’s just about 45-thousand people shy of three million. Just over 38-thousand babies were born in Iowa last year. Almost 92 percent of the mothers of those newborns were over the age of 20. And, there’s a sign of some population growth. There were about 11-thousand more births than deaths in Iowa last year.
