An unidentified man is in custody in western Iowa’s Cass County after a chase and an hour-long search. Authorities received word Monday afternoon that Jeep Cherokee reported stolen out of Omaha was spotted at a Harlan convenience store. The driver of the vehicle allegedly drove-off from the store without paying for gas and was later spotted northwest of Atlantic. A Cass County Sheriff’s deputy pursued the suspect into Atlantic, but ended-up having to break-off the chase as it entered the downtown area. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and a foot-chase ensued. He was captured about an hour without incident at a local restaurant and is being held in the Cass County jail on theft charges. Officials say additional charges are pending.
