A Democrat who ran unsuccessfully against western Iowa Congressman Steve King in 2004 is hoping to take on King again this fall. Joyce Schulte of Creston says she’s accumulated more fodder against King in the past two years. “There’s just so many things that have been let go…none of it good for western Iowa,” Schulte says. Schulte held an early morning news conference in Creston Saturday to announce her candidacy. “I think it’s time that we make the change, that we get back to having Congress work for the issues that really concern western Iowa and real common people,” Schulte says.

Schulte says she’s been encouraged to run again. Schulte got over 97-thousand votes in the 2004 election, and says she’s run into a lot of people who say they didn’t know her then but will back her now. Schulte is the director of student support services at Southwestern Community College in Creston.
