Once an Iowa Conference doormat, the University of Dubuque football team can get into the thick of the title chase with a victory at home this weekend. Standing in the Spartans way is a seventh ranked ZCentral team that is unbeaten and riding a 24 game regular season win streak.

Dubuque coach Vince Brautigam says it’s a fun time after all the rebuilding they’ve been doing and now they see if they can beat a team that’s been on top for a long time. Brautigan says the Spartans feel like title contenders. They stand 3-1 in the league race and 5-1 overall.

He says they are a good football team and the 20 seniors have eyed this moment for a long time. Central is 7-0 and needed to rally for a the win in four of their last six games. Brautigam says that’s in part a reflection of the way they play. He says they do a good job of being patient and making plays.
