A young man is in custody in connection with a shooting two weeks ago in Cedar Rapids. The arrest of 19-year-old Bevon Forbes happened Monday night after a routine traffic stop on the city’s southwest side.

Forbes, of Cedar Rapids, was initially arrested for carrying a concealed weapon when officers found a .32 revolver in his car. Investigators later identified Forbes as a suspect in the April 17 shooting that injured 26-year-old Jerome Smallwood of Cedar Rapids.

Smallwood was shot in the face. Forbes is now facing charges that include attempted murder, first degree robbery, willful injury and going armed with intent.
