A central Iowa man is dead after a car-train crash. A 58-year-old Boone man was killed Monday night after his car collided with a Union Pacific train east of Boone. The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Charles Hagen.

Reportedly, the 1985 Ford operated by Hagen drove around the protective railroad barrier arms and collided with the train at the junctions of Highways 17 and Old Highway 30. The Hagen car hit the side of the train with the vehicle dragged a few thousand feet before coming to a stop.

Hagen was pronounced dead at the scene with the accident still under investigation.
