South Winneshiek has established itself as a contender in class 2A in the upcoming post season tournament. The Warriors are 27-1 heading into the final week of the regular season and coach Ben Oberman’s team is ranked eighth in the latest Radio Iowa/Coaches Poll. He says when they started their preseason workouts in March they new they had a good chance to do something, buy never figured on an 18-0 start and a 27-1 record heading into the final week.

Oberman says the Warriors have a lot of experience but it is also a team with outstanding chemistry. He says you want to have guys who get along together on and off the field and that is what is happening. “And I really think that helps us on the field in competition,” Oberman says.

Oberman put together a challenging schedule that included several larger schools. The Warriors beat Class 4A tenth ranked Cedar Falls this past weekend. He says the team embraces the challenge of facing the bigger schools and he says they want to see good pitching heading into the postseason so they are prepare for the tournament run.
