Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Jake Rudock will start at quarterback in Friday’s Taxslayer Bowl against Tennessee. Ferentz says C.J. Beatherd will also play in the opening half.

“I’ll go right back to what I said in August, we have two really good quarterbacks, I wish we had this depth at every position, and they both have really practiced well and competed well,” Ferentz says.

While much of the attention has been on an offense that struggled for much of the season Ferentz says the defense will be challenged by a Tennessee offense that played its best at the end of the season. “The turning point to me was when they inserted the new quarterback and they won 3 out of 4 games, so to me thatn’s when their team hit stride,” Ferentz says. He says they have a whole new attack.

Iowa is 7-5. Tennessee is 6-6.
