The non-partisan National Taxpayers Union is criticizing Iowa’s AttorneyGeneral for the way he’s handled the case against Microsoft. Calling itgovernment-led larceny, Union President John Berthoud says the case is ahigh-tech heist. Berthoud says the computer giant is not breaking anti-trustrules & shouldn’t be forced to hand secrets to competitors or pay a hugefine.Iowa’s Tom Miller was key in leading attorneys general from 18 other statesin tackling Microsoft. Berthoud, speaking from his Washington D-C office, suggests Miller & the others drop the case immediately and apologize.Berthoud says the effort to make Microsoft pay the government’s legal feesis only a way to “provide lots of revenue for money-hungry politicians in thestates.” The judge in the anti-trust trial today set out a schedule toresume the trial on May 10th.
