Group asks for state funding for school fix up

A group which seeks state tax dollars to fix up local schools staged a rallyoutside the capitol today. John Desmond of Waterloo says it’s time for thestate to supplement local property tax dollars used for school constructionand renovation.Desmond is a member of a group known as Iowans United to Save our Schools.Republicans who control the legislature’s debate agenda oppose the idea ofsending more state aid to schools for school fix-up, arguing localadministrators and taxpayers should be making those infrastructure decisions– and investments.”Save our Schools” intends a year-long campaign to convince policy-makers toinvest state dollars in school construction.
