Harkin calls for investigation of North Carilna loan request

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is calling on federal officials to block what hesays is an attempt by a North Carolina community to “pirate” jobs from atown in northern Iowa.Tarboro, North Carolina applied for a half-million dollars in federal blockgrants which it wants to give to Sara Lee Corporation to lure it to movejobs from New Hampton. The plant now employs more than 600 workers but is injeopardy of closing. Harkin is calling on Housing & Urban DevelopmentSecretary Andrew Cuomo to investigate the case.Harkin says what Tarboro is doing is a “blatant violation of the law.
