Mother of Bettendorf teen sentenced on truancy charge

The mother of a Bettendorf teen who’s been chronically truant from school isbeing given a suspended sentence, a year’s probation and will have to attenda parenting class. It’s the third time in two years Mikayla Garcia was charged with failing toforce her 14-year-old son to attend class. He missed all or part of 43 daysduring last year’s first semester.
