Stamp honors Meredith Wilson

The United States Postal Service released a postage stamp today honoringMason City native Meredith Wilson. The Wilson stamp is part of a six-stampseries featuring broadway song writers. Mason City postmaster Alan Steckmandescribes it.Steckman says the Wilson stamp is part of the “Legends of American Music”series and comes in a sheet of 20.Wilson is probably most famous for composing the production “The Music Man.”He also wrote such songs as “76 Trombones” and “It’s beginning to look a lotlike Christmas.” A temporary post office was constructed outside the MasonCity community theater so residents could purchase the Wilson stamp.
