Teenage pregnancy rates in Iowa are on the decline, reversing a recent trend, according to a new study called the Status of Iowa Women Report. Doctor Ed Schor, Medical Director for the Iowa Department of Health, says despite the decline, teen pregnancy is still a problem. The study says black women have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy, while white women have the lowest. Doctor Schor says the contrast of groups has a lot to do with their perspective of sex.Pregnant teenagers, however, are the most likely age group to delay seeking prenatal care. Doctor Schor says teenagers are scared when they’re hit with the reality of being pregnant. The decrease in teen pregnancy rates in Iowa follows a national trend.
