Ducks killed in oil spill

December 13, 1999 By admin

About a dozen mallard ducks were killed over the weekend because of an oil spill at a Mason City cement plant. About five gallons of machine oil spilled into a holding pond used as coolant for the cement plant. About 12 ducks were killed and more could be affected because the pond is a popular spot for waterfowl. The spill’s been cleaned up according to state Department of Natural Resources officials.
