A suspect in a pickup truck stolen in Colorado was shot by an Iowa state trooper after a chase this morning in western Iowa’s Guthrie County. Iowa Highway Patrol spokesman Sergeant Dave Garrison says 27-year old Joseph Ewig of Colorado sped away from a traffic stop going the wrong way on the highway. The trooper rammed and halted the pickup truck near the Menlo exit in Guthrie County. Ewig jumped out of the truck and ran and got into the trooper’s car. Ewig was shot in the stomach after the trooper got into the car and wrestled with him. Garrison says Ewig may have tried to flee because the pickup wasn’t his.The pickup was stolen from Colorado yesterday. Garrison says the trooper suffered some minor injuries.Ewig was taken by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital. He’s listed in serious condition.
