A University of Northern Iowa educator says the six-hour school day is here to stay. Wendell McConnaha, the principal at U-N-I Price Lab school, believes the typical eight-to-three school day is all a student can take.McConnaha says the attention span and fatigue factor are kept around the six-hour mark. McConnaha says the length and time of a school day will not change anytime soon. McConnaha says the school day is dictated by the typical workday. McConnaha says split scheduling does not work for students. He says it disrupts other areas of the student’s life. McConnaha says if you change the school day so it’s radically different from the work day, kids and their parents will have even less time to spend with one another. McConnaha says there’s no conclusive research to indicate a nine a-m start is better for sleepy teenagers.
