The top cop at Iowa State University is moving across town to become the new Ames police chief. Loras Jaeger will leave his job as the head of I-S-U’s Department of Public Safety to take the Ames job August 21st.He says the strength of the city is one of the reasons he applied for the job. Jaeger began his career in Cedar Falls and eventually worked his way up the ranks to chief in that department. He took the I-S-U job about 10 years ago. He says he wants to take his experiences in both places and use them to manage the Ames department.Jaeger says there aren’t really that many differences between the two jobs. He says he’s is proud of the work he did at I-S-U. Jaeger will replace former Ames chief Dennis Ballantine, who retired after being appointed to the Story County Board of Supervisors.
