Maytag wins conservation award

Iowa-based Maytag is being named “Energy Star Partner of the Year” by the U-S Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. The appliance maker’s products save consumers money on their power and water bills with things like the Neptune washer and dryer and the Wide-by-Side refrigerator. Maytag president and C-E-O Ralph Hake says energy consumption is very important to his company and its clients.Energy Department officials say Americans, with the help of Energy Star and its partners, saved enough energy in 2000 to power ten million homes and reduce air pollution in the equivalent of ten million cars. The ceremony is today in Washington D-C.
