Death of Mingo toddler believed to be an accident

August 2, 2002 By admin

Authorities in Mingo are investigating the apparent accidental death of a toddler. Jasper County Sheriff Mike Ballmer says the toddler was found in her bedroom by her grandmother, who was babysitting. The infant was wrapped up in a venetian blind cord. He says Mingo rescue workers took the child to a local hospital where she died. Ballmer says investigators don’t think foul play was involved in the toddler’s death. It appears to be a case of accidental strangulation, he says, just a sad situation. The girl’s mother was at work when the tragedy occurred.
