Hamilton County wins award

January 23, 2006 By admin

A north-central Iowa county has landed an honor. Hamilton County is the first county in Iowa to be named a Community of Promise since the group called America’s Promise selected Iowa as a State of Promise in 2004. America’s Promise was started by retired General Colin Powell to help the nation’s youth excel in the classrooms and communities.

The group plans many changes for Hamilton County and Webster City to help young leaders, including, ongoing relationships with caring adults, safe places with structured activities during non-school hours, a healthy start and a future, marketable skills through effective education and opportunities to give back through community service.
