Final trial in murder of Spencer man getting underway

September 18, 2007 By admin

The last person allegedly involved in the murder of Gregory "Sky" Erickson goes on trial today in Spencer. Juan Humberto Castillo-Alvarez faces second degree murder and kidnapping charges. He’s also charged with conspiracy to commit a forceable felony.

The charges were filed in 1997 after Erickson’s body was found in a rural Jackson County, Minnesota farm house. Erickson died as a result of gunshot wounds in early June that year. Authorities allege Erickson was kidnapped from Spencer, beaten and later killed in Minnesota. Castillo-Alvare was extradited him from Mexico late last year.
