One person dies in accident in Webster County

July 2, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A one-vehicle accident last night in Webster County killed the driver and injured two passengers. The victim of the accident is identified as 34-year-old Alejandra Ortiz of Eagle Grove.

Reportedly the 1996 Mercury Villager driven by Ortiz lost control due to a defective tire, with the vehicle overturning into a nearby ditch filled with standing water from recent heavy rains. Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers were taken to a Fort Dodge hospital for treatment of their injuries. They’re identified as nine-year-old Joel Mendoza and five-year-old Jack Mendoza, both of Eagle Grove. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
