Service Saturday will honor fallen Iowa soldier

August 1, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Mourners will gather to honor a fallen soldier in northeast Iowa this weekend. Army Sergeant Michael Ristau was killed last month while serving in Afghanistan. Ristau’s vehicle was hit by an IED on July 13 while he was serving with an infantry unit based out of Washington state.

A memorial service will be held in Ristau’s honor on Saturday at American Legion Park in Cascade. Ristau had already been laid to rest in Washington state, where he grew up. His father and step-mother have relocated to Cascade while their son was serving, and they expected him to settle in the town after his time in the Army as well.
