Student Aid Commission holds virtual event on college registration

October 29, 2012 By Dar Danielson

The Iowa College Student Aid Commission is holding an on-line event this afternoon to help high school students who’re trying to decide on a college. Spokesperson Heather Doe says this is the first time they’ve done this type of program.

“This event is really a virtual kind of college prep event open for any high school student and their families who just want to learn a little bit more about the pathway to college, learn about the college admissions process, learn a little more about financial, and the types of financial aid that are available here in Iowa,” Doe says.

“And to chat with some college students to really find out first hand what college and campus life is all about.” Doe says this is the time of year when high school seniors are applying to colleges, but she says juniors and even younger high school students can join in and start planning for their future too.

“We have presentations from representatives from some of our colleges and universities just to really get peoples’ questions answered and hopefully get some students really thinking about some college choices,” Doe explains. The event is free.

Doe says you can go to their website at wwww.IowaCollegeaid.gov and click on the “register now button.” The event begins at noon today and runs through seven o’clock tonight.
