Parents leave boy at Mason City fire station

July 21, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Fire-truckA young boy was abandoned in northern Iowa this week and authorities are searching for his parents.

Under Iowa’s “Safe Haven” law, parents or guardians are allowed to leave an infant up to 14 days old at designated health care facilities without fear of being prosecuted. In this latest case though, the boy appears to be about a year old. He was left at a Mason City fire station about 10:30 on Tuesday night.

The child was taken to a hospital to be checked over and was to be turned over to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
