Former Neola city clerk facing charges for misusing city money

July 28, 2016 By Dar Danielson

GavelThe former Neola city clerk is now facing numerous felony counts following a state audit that showed she improperly spent thousands of dollars in city money.

Deborah Schierbrock was fired in August of 2013 following that state audit that showed $41,000 in money she spent on personal items. The audit also found $122,000 in payments for items that were not for the city, along with 42 city checks written to herself and her husband Bill who was the fire chief. Auditors found Schierbrock did not collect late fees of $56,000 due from her account and others for city utilities.

DCI agents reviewed the report and then turned it over to the Pottawattamie County Attorney who filed a felony count of ongoing criminal conduct, two felony counts of felonious misconduct, and six counts of nonfelonious misconduct. Schierbrock turned herself in Wednesday and was released on her own recognizance.
