Iowa is a leader in corn, soybeans and hogs, but not in car thefts. No Iowa cities are in the Top-100 of a new list of U-S cities where cars are most frequently stolen. Still, Iowa’s capitol city and several others did make the longer list of 300 cities. Holly Staszel is spokeswoman for the Insurance Information Institute. She says Des Moines is at number 113, Sioux City is at 139, Waterloo/Cedar Falls ranked 189th, and Iowa City was at 229. Staszel says Dubuque was the safest city in the state for cars — listed at number239. Auto theft is down about three percent nationwide. Miami is the number-one city for the number of vehicles stolen.
