State Senators support striking tire workers

With a few striking Titan Tire workers looking on, three state Senatorstoday called for a resolution to the nearly year-long strike at the DesMoines plant. Senator Mark Shearer, a democrat from Mount Pleasant, said it’s time for Titan Tire owner Morry Taylor to back down and startnegotiating the end the strike.The Union went on strike after workers were required to work 26 daysstraight without any time off. Titan managers have shifted some tire-makingto a plant in Mexico. Senator Matt Mc-Coy, a democrat from Des Moines, saidplant owner Morry Taylor is the epitome of corporate greed.Senator Dick Dearden, a democrat from Des Moines, said replacement workersaren’t safe at the plant.A rally will be held Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the Titanstrike.
