Carroll and Marshalltown ready for baseball

July 23, 2002 By admin

The cities of Marshalltown and Carroll are making final preparations to host the state high school baseball tournament which opens tomorrow. The class 2A and 3A games are in Carroll, while the class 1A and 4A games are played in Marshalltown. Marshalltown Convention and Visitors Bureau director Mary Aust says the games are a family affair as parents and grandparents alike turn out.The influx of people also brings an influx of dollars to Marshalltown merchants.State officials say any traveler who stays in town for the day spends 60 dollars, while those who stay overnight spend an average of 100 dollars. Aust says fans can go on-line to find what they need about the central Iowa city. You can contact the bureau by surfing to www.Marshalltown.org, or by calling 800-697-3155. The tournaments begin Wednesday and run through Saturday.
