Iowa women have to adjust to another injury

January 17, 2006 By admin

Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder will be forced to adjust her rotation again when the Hawkeyes visit Wisconsin on Thursday night. Freshman forward Nicole VanderPol suffered a partially torn knee ligament in Iowa’s victory over Northwestern on Sunday and will be lost for three to six weeks.

She is the fourth Iowa player to suffer a knee injury in the last seven months but unlike the other three will not need surgery. Bluder most teams would be down after another injury, but she says they’ve taken the positive view that at least VanderPol is not out for the rest of the season. Bluder says she admires the way the team is handling the latest injury news.

Bluder says the change in their rotation is something she wanted to try, so it will likely work out okay. The Hawks are 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten.
