Sioux City riverboat can continue to operate into next week

July 15, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A Polk County judge has refused to halt the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s order to shut down the Argosy Riverboat Casino. But the casino will still have a few days to operate.

Judge Eliza Ovrum did rule the Argosy Casino may remain open for seven more days through July 21st. That is to allow operator Penn Gaming and the Argosy to file an appeal with the Iowa Supreme Court. If that appeal is denied, the Argosy will close on July 22nd. In her ruling, Judge Ovrum states that the Argosy has not proven the likelihood of success on the merits of the case or that it is in the public interest to grant a stay.

Judge Overum says allowing the Argosy to stay open would be prolonging the inevitable.
