Officials with Briar Cliff College in Sioux City say it is full speed ahead with a plan to add a football program at the school. Last week, the Great Plains Athletic Conference voted to add Briar Cliff as a member and athletic director Jay Gunnels says with a league to play in they can now move ahead. They’ll field a junior varsity team next fall, and then a varsity team the fall of 2003. Gunnels says they hope to have a head coach for the program hired in about a month. Gunnels says the new coach could be on the job by this summer. Gunnels says the move to the Great Plains Conference is a plus for the entire athletic department. Two Iowa schools are already part of the Great Plains Conference: Northwestern College in Orange City and Dordt College in Sioux Center.
